Solo repetiteur (full-time 40 hours), Vienna

As one of the world's most prestigious opera houses, the Vienna State Opera looks back on a past rich in tradition as well as a multifaceted present.

Every season, more than 60 different opera and ballet works are on the program in around 350 performances. Every evening, international stars can be seen on stage and on the conductor's podium alongside the permanent members of the ensemble - accompanied in the pit by a unique orchestra: the State Opera Orchestra, whose musicians form the orchestra of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Today, the Vienna State Opera is regarded as one of the most important opera houses in the world, and above all as the house with the largest repertoire.

From the 2025/2026 season, the Vienna State Opera is looking for a solo repetiteur (full-time 40 hours).

Tasks

• Role preparation and coaching with singers, also independent leading of ensemble rehearsals
• Accompaniment of musical and staging rehearsals
• Playing of keyboard parts in the State Opera Orchestra
• Accompaniment of auditions, ensemble matinees, etc.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience as a solo repetiteur (opera), preferably in a repertoire company
• Confident and competent pedagogical contact with singers
• Excellent pianistic skills
• Extensive knowledge of the opera repertoire, ideally with a focus on French and Italian repertoire
• Good language skills in German, Italian and French (French as a native language is desired)
• Experience with playing keyboard parts in an orchestra (piano, celesta, fortepiano, harpsichord, bell piano, preferably also organ)
• Experience in stage music conducting is welcome

The following must be prepared for the audition

1st round:

• G. Bizet: “Carmen” Smugglers' Quintet
• W. A. Mozart: “Le Nozze di Figaro” Finale 2nd act

2nd round:

• G. Puccini: “Bohème” 1st act or G. Verdi: “Otello” 1st act
• R. Strauss: “Salome” Jews Quintet or “Elektra” Maids Scene
• A recitative from one of W.A. Mozart's “Da Ponte Operas” (on fortepiano)
• A complete opera of your choice: Faust by C. Gounod, Manon by J. Massenet or Werther by J. Massenet

• mock coaching with a singer

The audition is expected to take place on January 27, 2025 (1st round) and January 28, 2025 (2nd round) at the Vienna State Opera.
The Vienna State Opera will not cover any travel and accommodation costs incurred as a result of participation in the audition.

This position is remunerated with a monthly salary (14x per year) starting at € 3,800,- based on full-time employment. Depending on qualifications and experience, there is a willingness to overpay. (The minimum salary according to the collective agreement is € 2,504.48 gross per month based on full-time employment).
